Rotary Club of Sackville Bulletin September 6, 2018

Chair: Louise chaired the meeting and told the club members how her family is coping with her daughter’s recent hospitalization and diagnosis with Type I diabetes.  Mariah is steadily improving and handling it all amazingly well. Louise and Rob are planning, adjusting, organizing and, as always, loving and doing what’s best for Mariah.
Guests:  We welcomed fellow Rotarian, Sharon Meldrum, from the South Lake, Florida club.
Makeups:  Both the Goldmine and Community Projects committees met this past week.
No birthdays this week.
Pinpal Stories:        Dianne was visiting family in Grand Valley, ON and took her grandkids to the Orangeville splash pad.  The park and splash pad are sponsored by the local Rotary club and they have imprinted the 4-way test around the splash pad.  What a good idea!  A reminder to all of important tenets to learn and remember.
Bill almost had a Pin Pal story!  He tried valiantly to contact a Rotarian visiting Sackville from BC; had he only tried the correct phone number…..
Marita’s niece is a cancer survivor and counsellor at Camp Rotary.  She has an ankle tattoo of the Rotary wheel because Rotary helped her so much when she was a camper at the Camp.
Pam met a Rotaractor from New Minas at the corn boil.  The Tribune had a great, front-page picture of 3 Rotaractors serving their friends and soon-to-be friends at the corn boil.
Cheque Presentation:       Jason Hicks was the Goldmine Draw winner this week and was thrilled to receive the cheque for $2,498.00 from Edna.
50-50 Draw:  The elusive Queen of  's proved it doesn't want to get picked as Wayne chose the King of 's and lost out on $199.
Happy Toonies:
Tonight is the first NFL Thursday Night!  George is happy! …… Dianne thanks Bill, Mary and Darrell for assuming her duties on her recent trip to Ontario…..she is looking forward to seeing Venice when she and Frank travel to Europe in a couple of weeks…..Trish mentions that the Ticats beat the Argos in the Labour Day Classic, a REAL football game! …….. Wayne wonders – are the Ticats a real team?  Inquiring minds want to know! .......       Josh was happy to show members the newest member of the Cormier family - Dylan Raymond Cormier.

Committee Reports:
Fall Breakfast:         Trish has this well in hand and encouraged all hands to be on deck to make the fall breakfast a big success.  Beans to be baked were handed out and sign-up sheets were completed and we’re all looking forward to it.  There will be no ticket sales this year, but tickets will be available for any club member who want some.  TRHS is advertising the breakfast on their sign.
Foundation:  Pam graciously thanked the club members and particularly mentioned the partnership with the town of Sackville for another amazing corn boil.  She will write a letter of thanks to Matt. Next week, Edna, Bill and Pam have arranged a club picture with the DG and George Stanley.  If everyone could please be on time for the meeting…..Frank Oulton has been volunteered to snap the pic.
Legacy:         This week’s meeting, scheduled for Friday, will be rescheduled for next week so more members are able to attend.
Upcoming Committee Meetings:
Projects:  Monday, Sackville Commons, 6:15 pm
Club Admin:  Monday 10 am Gayle’s House
Community Projects:  Tuesday, Ducky’s, 5:45 pm
President’s Time/Speaker:
Louise outlined the great amount of work that David has been doing in spearheading organizing many facets of the important work of club administration including bringing the minutes up to date and up to spec.  Thank you very much David, for your efforts.
Edna has volunteered to fill the vacant board member position and is welcomed to the board.
The board proposed “disbursing 4 TRHS bursaries this year instead of the usual 3, to accommodate an error made by the high school”.   So moved by Wynn, seconded by Pam.  Carried.
Stacey addressed donating $3,500 towards refurbishing the playground at Lillas Fawcett Park (in partnership with the town – total budget is $50,000) this year.  This will bring it up to code, include natural aspects and make it more accessible.
Susan moved “making the $3,500 donation”.   Josh seconded it and the club carried it.  Dianne suggested it would be nice to include the 4-way test somewhere, if possible.
Louise asked members to bring forward any ideas for venues and activities for future meetings to provide some variety to meeting times and opportunities for socializing.  Trish added that inviting prospective members to a social evening instead of a breakfast meeting might show just how much fun we can be!
The meeting concluded with the recitation of the 4-way test.
