Rotary Club of Sackville Bulletin March 7, 2019

Gayle was a “one-woman Rotary machine” this week as she performed most of the roster duties and was the guest speaker.  She did, however, decide to forego bio information.
For most of the meeting we had only one regular guest – Junior Rotarian Mariah.  At the end of the meeting Ruth Coates attended to pick up her charity’s cheque.  No stranger to Rotary, Honorary Rotarian Ken Draper made the trip from Moncton this morning to be our guest Rotarian.
Makeups were made by members of the Gold Mine committee and well as the ad-hoc Bridge committee.
On the Pin Pal Story front, Susan forwarded a recent article from MTA’s Record showcasing the latest Rhodes Scholar (the President of Rotaract) to the President of Rotary International.  To her surprise, he wrote a letter back and now she is now writing another story to sent to Rotary……In a twist of fate, Ken was shopping at Costco and ran into a new Sackvillian who is selling a major computer system.  Wayne will approach his as a speaker and his contact info will be passed on to the membership committee.  Ken feels he may be interested in Rotary.
This week’s 50/50 draw saw Erin’s ticket drawn.  She failed to win the $49 pot by drawing the 4 of      instead of the Ace of     .
Susan was happy that there is a lot of snow as she gets to ski every day.  There was a lot of snow in Quebec on a recent trip…...Patricia was happy that one of her granddaughters is a runner up in the Miss Teen Canada contest.  She was also happy that her twin granddaughters will soon return from Ottawa……….Speaking of granddaughters, Bill was happy that his granddaughter was here all week, and he wasn’t even exhausted………….Marita was happy to report that Kalika was going skiing……..Ken was happy to be back ay one of our meetings……….Louise reported that she and Rob have been getting a lot less sleep recently as Mariah has not been sleeping well.  They are taking turns monitoring her during the night.
Duty Roster Next Week
Chair – Darrell
Greeter – George
Introducer – John
Thanker – Pam
Looks like we need volunteers for the last three.
Upcoming Meetings- Club Admin meets next Tuesday, while the Board meets the next night (Wednesday).
Committee Reports – Dianne advised members that we need more people to sign up for the Sleigh Ride on March 24th as we need to have 20 members and guests.  If not, it will be cancelled………Susan reported that the Rotaract Club meets tonight if anyone is interested.  They will elect a full slate of officers for the following year.
President Louise reported that the tickets for the Spring bash will be out shortly and asked members to sell all their tickets.  This is the only event all year long that members are asked to sell tickets.  Members should also think about having their Company become a Gold, Silver or Bronze sponsor.  See Louise for details.
Maintaining the “I can do it all” attitude, Gayle introduce the guest speaker – herself.  Her topic was the recent trip she and Doug made to Newfoundland.  They met up with a long-last friend from Pennsylvania, who was awed by the Province.  Seems their friend’s father was in a torpedoed boat in WW II off the coast of Newfoundland, so this trip was special to him.  After spending many days following this adventure, they eventually toured the rest of the Province.
Ove thanked Gayle before the meeting was adjourned with the 4-way-test.
Following the end of the meeting, Ruth Coates accepted a Gold Mine Charity cheque on behalf of the Sackville Swim Club.
