Rotary Club of Sackville Bulletin September 20, 2018

Stacey was in the chair, filling in for Lesley, and gave an amusing account of how on one occasion, attempting to make a dignified exit from family court in Amherst, she fell backwards – fortunately to be caught by one of the sheriffs on duty.

50-50 Draw: Trish’s number was drawn, but she failed to pick the Queen of Spades, so the pot of $220 carries forward to next week.

Makeup:  Pam had a makeup attending last week’s meeting of the Port Elgin club with the DG.

Birthday:  Darrell was serenaded (retroactively from last week).

Happy Dollars:  Charlie was interviewed by CBC Moncton host Jonna Brewer in connection with the publication of People of the Tantramar, only to discover that from way back Jonna knew daughter Mary who did the layout and design for the book.

Looking at the female company at his table Charlie borrowed a phrase of Joe’s and claimed to be a chick magnet.  16 years ago Pam went on a Rotary Friendship Exchange to South Africa; now she chairs the District committee which is planning exchanges to Brazil next year and Sweden in 2020.  Trish enjoyed a business trip to Dublin and a visit with family to St. Pierre and Miquelon (but she’s not going to hike with her sister again).  Louise reported on a successful first clinic appointment with Mariah; she was told to “stop hovering.”  Josh thanked Bill for standing in for him last week.  Sandy sang the praises of auction dinners having attended a fabulous meal at Edna’s.  Gayle was glad all her visitors were gone (until Christmas), but was sorry to report that Sue Purdy had fallen in Moncton and had sustained a concussion which will probably keep her from Rotary for several months.  Susan F was also glad to see the last of house guests (24 at the last count).  Marita is all set to go moose-hunting in northern New Brunswick this weekend. Stacey is preparing to welcome in-laws as house guests (they make good baby-sitters). Wynn added his words in favour of auction dinners – good food, good company and a good way to raise money.
Next Week: 20 September 2018:   Chair: Louise;  Greeter: Mary;  Introducer: Sandy;  Thanker: Wynn;  Speakers:  Rebekah Cant & Courtney Cameron, “The Neil Squire Society.”

Polio Plus: Pam reminded everyone that October is Polio Month – see the current issue of The Rotarian. The club will celebrate World Polio Day on 24 October with a theatre party to watch the movie “Breeze.”  Admission will be by donation, and the Gates Foundation will double match the money raised.

Inhouse Auction:  For the auction on 11 October please send photos of the items you are donating to Pam, by 4 October at the latest.

Rotaract:  Susan F reminded members of the Rotaract chilli sale (part of the Fall Fair).  An apple-picking visit is scheduled for Sunday 30 September; volunteer drivers are needed. There are also Rotaractors who would like to go to the District Conference, up and down in the one day; drivers needed for this also.

Breakfast: Trish reviewed the final arrangements for the breakfast on Saturday; she seemed happy about the way preparations are going.

President’s Time:  Louise commended the Dieppe Club’s Food Truck Festival.  She was sorry to announce the resignation of Tim from the club.

The scheduled speaker Elizabeth Wells was unable to attend due to illness. We wish her a quick recovery and look forward to a re-scheduled visit.

The meeting closed with the Four Way Test.

Gold Mine Presentation:  Shawn Bostick came by to accept from Gayle a cheque for $645.50 on behalf of the Sackville Early Music Festival.
