Rotary Club of Sackville Bulletin October 18, 2018

Louise was in the chair and explained why she was a little late: there are problems getting a daughter ready for school.

50-50 Draw: Ove’s number was drawn, but he failed to pick the Queen of Spades, so the pot of $252 carries forward to next week.

Gold Mine Presentation:  John Higham came by to accept from Charlie a cheque for $716 on behalf of the Sackville Community Association.

Makeups:  Pam had make-ups at Woodstock last Thursday and at Amherst on Monday.

Birthday:  Pam was congratulated retroactively.  She has a new car and a new digital watch (she’s still figuring out how to get the time on it).

Toonie Count: When Josh was unable to attend last Monday he appealed for a substitute:  four Joshs showed up.

Happy Dollars:  Wynn was happy to say he has never tried pot. His grand-daughter Karlee won a curling event in Quebec and next week heads for the Junior Grand Slam event in Truro.   Dianne strongly recommended seeing Live Bait’s production of “Billy Bishop Goes To War.”   Pam, Pat P, Erin and Dianne are heading for the District Conference, taking with them, as a contribution from Sackville, a copy of People of the TantramarCharlie announced that the book has now sold over 250 copies.   Josh reported on a visit to the IWK Hospital in Halifax with Dylan who now has a brace for one leg; hopefully this will produce the desired result.   Stacey’s son has turned 15, the age of maturity in the Baha’i faith.  Patricia is enjoying seeing her brother Philip from Calgary who is back east visiting family.

Next Week: 25 October 2018:   Chair: Morgan;  Greeter: Pat B;  Introducer: Susan F;  Thanker: Dale;  Speaker:  David Bruce.

Polio Plus: Pam reminded everyone that next Wednesday 24 October is World Polio Day.

The club will celebrate with a theatre party at the Vogue cinema at 7:00 p.m. to watch the movie “Breeze.”  Admission will be by donation, and the Gates Foundation will double match the money raised. Pam reviewed the arrangements for what will be a district event.  With the help of donations from the Amherst Club and the District we hope to reach our target of $5,000.  MacDonalds are sponsoring the event and are donating vouchers for coffee/cookie for all who attend. After the movie, the words “END POLIO NOW” will be projected on the Wood Block across the street.

Rotary Auction:   How much did we make from last week’s inhouse auction ?  The answer is $2,200.  Erin and Wynn came closest to guessing the result and each got a bottle of wine (donated by Wynne and Sandy).

President’s Time:  Louise reported that we are still looking for members to chair the membership and fund-raising committees.

Club Assembly:  Louise raised the question of expenses for those attending the District Conference.   Proposed by Darrell, seconded by Wynn and carried that an additional $500 be allocated for this purpose.  Agreed to review the expenses policy before next year’s conference.

Darrell reviewed the financial statements for 2017-18 including the trust account and the club account.  The sum of $25,000 is set aside for a Legacy Project. Thanks to help from the Gold Mine Draw charitable donations were a record $56,000.  The statements have been reviewed by Pat P, and are available on ClubRunner.  Moved by Darrell, seconded by Josh, and carried that the statements be approved as presented.

Having successfully presented the financial report Darrell was presented with a certificate honouring his 15 years in Rotary.

The meeting closed with the Four Way Test.
