Rotary Club of Sackville Bulletin July 18, 2019

David was in the Chair today and thanked the Heritage Trust for their assistance in allowing us to meet at the Campbell Carriage Factory where the guests outnumbered the Rotarians.    There were no visiting Rotarians but nearly all members present brought a guest(s).  Sandy and Wayne brought their granddaughter Marlee Harper and her friend Lola O’Neil, Bill brought his wife Heather, Pat Samuelsen accompanied her husband Ove and Shayne brought his wife Kathy Ruston.  The final member Marita brought her daughter Kalika.
Heritage Trust Executive Director Karen Valanne had as her guests – members of her Board, namely Paul Bogaard, Kathy Ruska, Peter Hicklin and Jerry Baycroft.
Mary admitted to being another year older on the 19th and was serenaded with a rousing “Happy Birthday”.  When the 50-50 draw commenced, Sandy’s number was drawn.  Expecting to draw the 10 of  from the deck, she missed out on $82, drawing the 5 of   instead.
Even with a small crowd of members, they were, for the most part, happy.  Trish was happy that she sold her BMW and has already spent the money on renovations……..Patricia (Ove’s wife) was happy as she was going the Laurentians today to “dog sit” for her daughter………Ove was happy as he was following on Saturday morning………Sandy was happy that her granddaughter was spending the week with her and that the dock finally was put in this week………..Guest Peter Hicklin was happy that his 2-year-old granddaughter was visiting from China………Marita was happy to be going to Newfoundland for a visit – a non-medical visit………Bill was happy that he had a date for Rotary.
Food for lunch was provided by Foodland amid the beautiful scenery that is the salt marsh.
Next week’s Chair will be David – talking about his vision for the Club for the next Rotary year.
There was no guest speaker this week, but Karen Valanne from the Heritage Trust explained a dilemma they are currently working through.  Seems they inherited 2 old hay barns, but they have no land close by on which to move the barns to.  The owner of the adjacent land wants to continue farming and wishes to give none of his land.
The meeting was concluded with David reading the 4-way-test and a tour of the Carriage Factory.
