Rotary Club of Sackville Bulletin July 19, 2018

The Club Assembly meeting of July 19th was chaired by President Louise.
The club welcomed guests Elizabeth Wells, Bill Durant and Might-be-president-one-day Mariah, as well as visiting Rotarian Sharon Meldrum of the Lakeland, FL club.
Last week’s makeups were meetings of the Goldmine and the Club Administration committees.
Pinpal Stories:
Gayle and Ove shared the tale of their day governed by the vagaries of flight scheduling this past week; much frustration and missed meals but the silver lining was that the delays put them in the right place to bring home fellow traveller Elizabeth Wells, who was also “enjoying” a fun day at the Moncton airport.
50/50 Draw:
Sandy was the keeper of the family tickets but graciously let Wayne have a crack the the pot.  Looking for the Queen of , he picked the 7 of .  Boo!  Hoo!
Happy Toonies:
Courageous Pat is registering for the annual Beech Hill Challenge today, a 4 km obstacle race.  You go, girl!  Ove thanked Gayle for missing a meal to pick him up at the airport….Trish was early to the meeting!....Dianne was a third-time grandmother at 9:00 last night….thanks to Gayle from Edna for taking on her duties while she was vacationing.    The club are looking forward to welcoming Josh & Christina’s baby in August and donated a baby quilt, beautifully made by Gayle.

Goldmine Presentation:
Bill Durant, a Rotarian in the 50’s and 60’s, was delighted to have won the Goldmine draw this week and a cheque for $4,896.00 was presented to him by Wynn and George.  Elizabeth Wells, representing the Charity-of-the-Week Sackville Assistance Centre collected a cheque for $636 from Gayle.

Projects
On November 24th, the Legacy Committee will present several opportunities for the Club to discuss and choose one to stand behind and move forward.
President’s Time:
Be the Inspiration” is President Louise’s call to action for the upcoming Rotary year.  Inspire each other, get involved. You’ll get back more than you give.
Appreciate projects spearheaded in prior rotary years:  the booster pump, the bridge, Lillas Fawcett park and let’s take them as inspiration for a future Legacy project.
Thanks to everyone for the support to the Goldmine.  We’ve raised $367,780 in the last three years, with half going to the community winners and $91,000 to the organizations the Sackville club supports.  Wonderful!
One of our other goals this year is to increase club membership and enhance the experience for all members by expanding the types and times of meetings and letting new members know that “whatever time they have to offer is enough”.  Some years it’s more than others, depending on life’s other commitments, but it’ll always be valued in this club.  So please, all members, be ready to offer the opportunity to those around you. In the same vein, let’s all actively look for community volunteer opportunities for our club, so we can contribute, have fun, and become more visible.  To aid this effort, this year, we have a Public Image Committee, chaired by Erin.
President Louise put out a call for a Chair to spearhead the Fall Breakfast.
The specific goal of the Board this year is full transparency to all members.  As part of this, Wayne gave an informative demonstration of Clubrunner, which brings together all committee reports, bulletins, membership details etc and provides a platform for keeping in touch with all the members of the club. Wayne will happily offer a more in-depth session in the near future for anyone interested.
Before breakfast Wayne ran a photo from 1992 of the members present at a weekly meeting in McConnell Hall at MTA.  Only 5 persons are still Active or Honorary members of the Club and unfortunately 11 of the remaining members have passed on.  Thanks Charlie for the photograph.
