Speaker:
Paul Bogaard, “Mr. Heritage” was introduced by Wayne. Paul, a professor emeritus of Mount Allison described the process involved in acquiring, moving and renovating the Cape Jourimain lighthouse over the last 20 years. It was built in 1869 so next year will be the 150th anniversary of the lighthouse. DFO covered the cost of the move to save the lighthouse from toppling into the sea as the cliff receded. ACOA and the province donated 75% of the renovation cost, with the Heritage Society fundraising the remaining 25% and overseeing every detail of this labour of love. The pictures of the original lighthouse structure and details and the painstaking renovation illustrated the commitment and time that Paul and his colleagues and co-workers devoted to this project. Paul was thanked by Bill and copies of Charlie’s newest book, People of the Tantramar, will be donated to each of the three local school libraries.
The 4-way test was recited to conclude the meeting.
