Shayne handled his first-time chairing like he had done it several times. He has taken on the role of Youth Services and recently had his first meeting following the first significant snowfall of the year. He considers himself blessed to chair this committee. Guests this week were Kelli Taylor (Scotiabank’s new manager), Matt Betti, (potential member), Kathy Wilson (potential new member), Colin Robertson (Susan’s son) and Dillon Cormier (Josh’s son). Only one visiting Rotarian – Bill McNeish from Ottawa. Makeups, Pin Pal Stories and Birthdays were absent this week. 50-50 Draw – Ove was lucky to have his ticket drawn this week. Looking for the 10 of , he drew the ace of and lost out on $236. Happy Toonies – Shayne was getting excited about his foray to Portugal, set for next week. He will be gone for 7 – 8 weeks. Some of his Portuguese itinerary is being organized by Pam, who is already over there……. Trish is happy that she has retained control over the remote. Bill and Sandra have returned to Ontario………Erin reminded members about the Curl for Cancer Bonspiel on Feb. 1st. There is hope that Rotary will put in a team……. Edna was happy to receive correspondence from former exchange student Henna. She is now a Rotary member in district 1410 in Finland. She also had an email from our French student, Louis………Judy was happy to report that son Sam has been accepted to graduate studies in chemistry at Dalhousie University. Committee Meetings – Club Services meets next Wednesday (January 15th) at Susan’s house and the Board will meet Next Tuesday (January 14th) at Goya’s. Committee Reports – Pat P. advised members of the Paul Harris presentation evening on February 27th at Cranewood. This is the time we honor members of the community. President’s Time – David reported that Theresa recently fell and had to have a new hip installed. She is now on the mend……. He reminded members of the Autumn House Auction next Saturday (Jan 18th) in Amherst. We are a major sponsor……. He concluded with a presentation of Past President pins to Ove and Josh. Shayne introduced our speakers Kristi Steeves and Rebecca Leaman, employees of MTA. They presented on experiential learning and highlighted the 5 major projects for 2019 – 2020. Shayne thanked the ladies by presenting them with pens and a library book that will be donated to a library in their name. |
