Chair: Gayle
Introducer: Marita
Thanker: Stacey
Greeter: Lesley
Committee Reports:
Spring Bash: Chad started at Taylor Ford this week and must be great at his job as he’s already persuaded them to become a Silver Sponsor.
President’s Time: At last night’s Board Meeting, $5,000 was donated to Community Forest International, on recommendation of the International Projects Committee. The funds will provide technical and business training for 137 women in Pemba.
Louise also informed the club that Tammy has resigned.
Speaker: Louise introduced Heather Patterson, of the Sackville Assistance Centre. Heather described the history of the Sackville Food Bank and outlined the disturbing facts of hunger and food insecurity in Canada: 16.8% of Canadians live in poverty with 70% of these employed, at rates below the living wage. Between 8 – 10% of pensioners rely on food banks to provide basic sustenance.
Gayle thanked Heather with a card and pen and the presentation of a book in Heather’s name to be donated to a local library.
The meeting concluded with recitation of the 4-way test.
