Meeting will be an opportunity for club members to network and socialize with members of our partner Rotaract club executive. It will be held at Bagtown Brewery at their new screened in patio area. They also now offer a new line of non-alcoholic soda. Catering will be by Rose from Pi By Crow. Rose will offer either BBQ hamburgers or a fish chowder. This is an opportunity to support two local entrepreneurs 🙂 Should the weather not cooperate we may have to cancel the event or perhaps move it into the Sackville Commons (minus the beer). |

Hi All,
Just a reminder of the Board meeting on Tuesday, October 8 at 5:30 pm at Goya's. If you could come a little early to order your meal that would be great so we can start the meeting on time. Please submit a brief report to the Board, ahead of time, including any actions so I can update the log accordingly prior to the meeting. See attached template. You can also find it on Club Runner under the Documents for the 2019/20 Board of Directors. I would also ask that you review the Action log and review any actions that may be assigned to you. Here is the link to the 2019/20 log: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CWplq9r2vPO_7-pQdwOIsf6OcQVZcYPiOI5LMIZCJ6w/edit?usp=sharing https://portal.clubrunner.ca/1225/Documents/en-ca/83564773-1733-4136-83d3-bdce05919bba/1/ Thank you, Edna Boland Club Secretary

This will be the large distribution to the Grade 3 students at Salem School. There are 3 classes with 25 students in each class. We try and have one volunteer for 2 students so we need lots of people. A good time to introduce prospective members to the literacy programs of Rotary. This event was greatly enjoyed by the folks who came out last year. |

The membership committee is just getting started and I sent an email out to those on the membership committee a few weeks ago to make sure they were still willing to serve on this committee. It is exciting times in membership with all the new membership types to appeal to more people. This email is to open up to all the club, the opportunity to help us in building the membership of our rotary club to be able to do even more good works in our community. Our first brain storming meeting will be October 22nd at Goya's at 5:30. If you want to order food come a few minutes early. After this meeting we can set a day and time each month that will work for the majority. These will be an hour meeting only. What can't be done in the hour will be covered in the next meeting. At this first meeting we will review the different membership types, some potential prospects, and decide on the details for our first fireside chat for new members.
Even if you want to come just for this meeting to see if it is something you may be interested in then come join us.

Rotary Leadership Institute Saturday 26th October 2019 in Truro RLI – ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE – ATLANTIC DIVISION ATLANTIQUE Representing Rotarians in Districts 7810 and 7820, Atlantic Canada The future of Rotary and the service we give to our community locally and internationally depends on strong club leadership. The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a series of fast-paced, interactive, one-day courses offered to refine a Rotarian’s leadership skills and increase their base of knowledge in Rotary. Courses are fun, topical, interactive, and geared toward busy business, professional and community leaders who want to be more effective leaders in their vocation and their Rotary club and become more knowledgeable Rotarians.
RLI Mission: The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) is a grassroots, multi-district leadership and Rotary development program using facilitation in small groups to engage Rotarians and strengthen clubs. About the RLI Program: Established in 1992, RLI has become a worldwide organization with divisions in every continent of the world. While it is an unofficial program of Rotary International, it has support from Rotary International. The basic RLI program consists of series of three one day Parts. The material in each Part is organized to gradually increase the participant’s Rotary knowledge and leadership skill and the Parts are taken sequentially over a period of time. This is the Rotary volunteer event which happen in the second week of each month. Christmas Cheer is looking for volunteers to assist in the packing of Toy sacks for children and whatever else they need us to do. It starts at 9am and is finished "when we are done". So if you can't make 9 but can come a bit later, I think that would be fine. |

Food for Thought is a program which is run out of the high school. Every day, lunchs are prepared for the Tantramar Schools: Salem Elementary, Marshview Middle, and Tantramar Regional High School. There are children in Tantramar who come to school with no lunch and sometimes no supper. Thursday is the Rotary Day and Dave and Sue have been manning the roster since last March. The volunteer arrives at the school at 1pm on Thursday and is directed by the Supervisor of the program (Melanie Ball), how many lunches are to be made that day. It usually takes 15-20 minutes depending on the number. The lunchs are then dropped off at the other schools (usually just Marshview on Thursdays). One person can do this duty but a pair is more fun. You will be done in half an hour and that includes delivery. And you will be helping those who can not help themselves at this point in their young lives. |

Students in Sackville have a PD Day on January 27th. Sackville 2020, in conjunction with the town and university, is offering a day of engaging activities to children on that PD Day. The event will be held at the university and civic centre and the activities will be run by Mt. A student volunteers. There is no charge for the children to particiapte so that there are no barriers to the involvement of any students/families. Sackville 2020 has asked Rotary if they would support the event by providing lunch to the participants. We will be providing and serving chili, buns and veggies. I am asking for the assistance of Rotarians who would be willing to make a batch of chili for 12 - 15. With enough batches made we can feed all of the anticipated 100 - 120 participants and volunteers. I will find an e-mail everyone making chili a recipe that we can all use. I will also find out if there are any vegetarians and make sure we have a vegetarian chili if need be. |
