50-50 Draw:  Lesley’s number was drawn but she failed to pick the Queen of Spades so the pot of $58 carries forward to next week.

 

 

Gold Mine Presentation:  Tammy Beal-Stillman was on hand to collect her winnings of $2,458. Jamie made the presentation.  

                 

Visiting Rotarians: Sharon from South Lake County Club, Florida.

 

PinPal Stories:  Dianne met a lady at Convocation whose daughter had been a RYE student. Pam was at the UNB convocation and met someone whose daughter had also been a RYE student and who runs the “It’s OK TO Be Awesome” program.

 

Birthdays: Since Bill will not be here next week (he’s off to Ottawa for a five week visit with family) he was serenaded in advance.

 

Happy Dollars:   Bill was happy to see three Rotarians at the last Council meeting – all for different reasons. He enjoys being at Convocation and as a member of the Senate he gets to sit on the platform.   Patricia envies her family members who are off to Disney World via Washington, D.C.  Wayne was one of those at Council where he learned to appreciate how much work the councillors do (he got a 60-page document).   Ove is glad to see his favourite competitor back in business.  Gayle is off to visit her daughter in Wales.  Trish was glad to have Bruce back in time for the Spring Bash only to see him take off again for Ontario.   Wynn is looking forward to having a newly qualified associate in the office as of 1 July.   Sharon is glad Wynn is going back to work next week.   Stacey survived a week in court, and looks forward to having no court cases next week.

Spring Bash:   Jamie thanked everyone for their help.  The net proceeds should be about $7,500.  See pictures below.

Induction:   Charlie reviewed some historical highlights of Rotary International and of the Rotary Club of Sackville. A statue of former member and designer of the Canadian flag George Stanley is to be installed downtown within the next month.

 

 

Jamie introduced Lesley, President John did the pinning, and all present welcomed the new member.

 

 

Club Assembly:  Stacey who chairs the Projects Committee sported a “Rotary at Work” vest and spoke on planned new initiatives in community service. Rotarians are supposed to “Serve”; what they mainly do is “Meet.”  We do a lot of fund-raising and are a very welcoming club; what we need to do this coming year is increase the amount of practical service we do in the community.

 

 

A “Volunteer Hours Budget” is to be drawn up with each member being asked to volunteer for service a minimum of two hours per quarter. Upcoming events at which volunteers are needed: Salem School Send-Off (info has been mailed out through ClubRunner); the Sackville Triathlon (25 August); the Corn Boil (first Saturday in September.

 

 

The proposal to place more emphasis on service was warmly welcomed.  Other suggestions included the Drew Nursing Home, Spring Clean-up, EOS Insulating parties. Volunteering will make the club more visible in the community, and may also attract new members.
